Disaster Relief Support for the Democratic National Convention

Colorado Baptists have been given a huge opportunity to make a kingdom impact during a national event right here in our own backyard. As you are fully aware, I am sure, Denver will be hosting the Democratic National Convention this summer  and we have opportunities for service during and around this event. Our disaster relief organization has been asked to be a part of a historic partnership between non-profit, religious and Governmental agencies.

               
Specifically, Colorado Baptist Disaster Relief has been asked to help feed those who may be displaced by any major incidents during this event and we need your help. While we have mobile kitchens, we do not currently have the staff to man them. We need people to be at one of the four mobile kitchen sites from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. We have broken this down into two shifts per day. There is opportunity to serve as little or as much as you are available.
 
We will be providing orientation meetings for all those willing to participate in this event with CBGC Disaster Relief. EVERY PERSON WISHING TO VOLUNTEER FOR THIS EVENT MUST ATTEND AN ORIENTATION SESSION. Below is a list of orientation dates:
May 24 – Mile High Association          9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – DNC Overview & Orientation
June 6-7 – Riverside Baptist Church    Full scale DR Training and DNC Orientation  6-9 p.m. Fri   9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Sat
July 12 – Riverside Baptist Church       9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – DNC Overview & Orientation
August 24 – Mississippi Ave Baptist    2-6 p.m. – DNC Overview & Orientation

If enough interest is shown, there is the potential for additional orientation training to be held on the Western Slope or other times and locations. Please notify the state office if you are interested.
               
As a Colorado Disaster Relief volunteer, we would like to afford you the opportunity for service first before we recruit new volunteers for this event. You have shown interest in helping others as a trained disaster relief volunteer and we want to say thank you by giving you first option on times, dates and locations for this opportunity.  Click HERE  to volunteer for this event. Please fill out the contact information completely and make sure to mark all times and dates you are available to volunteer, including which orientation training you will be attending.  
 
In addition to our Disaster Relief efforts, the Mile High Association is sponsoring the “Love Denver” event. There are two main components of this. The first is food and respite for first responders during the DNC. Large events take their toll on police, fire and emergency workers. This will give them an opportunity to relax in a comfortable atmosphere away from the crowds, have a hot meal that doesn’t come from a cardboard box or wrapped in recycled paper and see the love of Jesus played out in real and relevant ways.
 
The second component is intentional evangelism on the streets. Not only does this event give us an opportunity to be Jesus for emergency responders, it gives us an unprecedented opportunity to share Christ with large numbers of people, some of whom may never have this opportunity again. It’s not every day that hundreds of thousands of people move into an area all at once. Can you imagine the potential for a revival setting in our civic parks - one that could not only affect our area, but the entire country?
 
Here are the ways you can be involved:
PRAY - Begin to pray for every person who will be coming into our area in August. Start looking at them not as delegates, protesters, first responders, visitors and guests, but as people who need to experience the love of Christ in their lives in real ways. Pray for the volunteers to have sensitivity to the Spirit in engaging people in spiritual conversation. We need 24/7 prayer coverage for this event. 
 
VOLUNTEER - Sign up for an opportunity to hone your skills as a Disaster Relief volunteer. Pray about the opportunity of not only helping from the Disaster Relief side but also taking part in the Love Denver piece of this opportunity.
 
RECRUIT -We are asking for 1000 volunteers total for the Love Denver and Disaster Relief aspects of this event. The orientation meetings will give every volunteer the information and training they need to be a part of this historic event in the lives of Colorado Southern Baptists. With opportunities for feeding, direct evangelism, and general service, there is something everyone can do.
